Bhutan, The Dragon Route

Welcome to the Kingdom of the Thunder Dragon. Located in the eastern Himalayas, Bhutan borders China and India and this Buddhist kingdom of the Himalayas, portrays and mixes the best way history, culture, nature and spectacular landscapes. It is one of the most inaccessible countries for general tourism and even more difficult to visit on a motorcycle since it is impossible to do it independently. Closed to tourism until a few years ago, the government imposes a minimum daily expenditure of $ 250 per person to avoid mass tourism. It is the only State that does not base its level on GDP, but on the Gross National Happiness Index. Its festivals, colors, music and mountain roads make this destination a fascinating country to discover for every biker. Its roads in good general condition, stimulate safe motorcycle trips through countless curves, forests and high mountain ports. The smile and kindness of the people is something exceptional.

On this Royal Enfield motorcycle trip we will cross Bhutan from West to East, going in and out of the two borders with India in the states of Sikkim and Assam. The trip covers about 1000 kms, most of them by paved road.

Itinerary

Day 1 Paro - Paro - 0

Arrival of international flights to Paro. Flights to reach Paro International Airport depart from Delhi, India or Kathmandu, Nepal. Transfer to the hotel, meeting and chat with the group about driving in Bhutan, introduction to the country and the trip program. We take a motorcycle ride to test our motorcycles to the port of Chele. Hotel in Paro.

Day 2 Punakha - 175 km

Paro – Punakha. Departure towards the capital, with the impressive view of the Pa Chu until reaching the Chunzum confluence. We leave the capital on our right to continue towards Punakha, the ancient capital of Bhutan. We cross the Dochula port at 3100m, to visit the Punakha Dzong, considered one of the most beautiful dzongs in the country. Night in Punakha.

Day 3 Punakha - Phobjikha Valley - 120 km

Punakha – Phobjikha. Stop in Lobeysa to see its lively local market. We continue to the Phobjikha valley known as the Valley of the Cranes or Gangteng. This is where the black-necked Tibetan cranes migrate. Night in Phobjikha valley.

Day 4 Phobjikha Valley - Thimphu - 150 km

Phobjikha - Thimphu. Arrival in the afternoon to the capital of Bhutan, Thimphu. Rest of the day free to discover and get lost in the streets of the city, go to shops and bars or relax. Night in Thimphu.

Day 5 Thimphu - Thimphu - 0 km

Thimphu. After a good breakfast, visit the Art School, National Library or the Takins Reserve, the national animal of Bhutan. We will climb the BBS towers to admire the view of the entire city from the top and later go to the Kuensel Phodrang aka, where the largest reclining Buddha in the country is located with the best panoramic view of the Thimphu valley. Rest of the day free. Overnight at the resort in Thimphu.

Day 6 Thimphu - Paro - 145 km

Thimphu – Paro. Morning departure in private vehicle to Paro. After breakfast we climbed to the ruins of the Drugyal Dzong, 14 km from Paro, which is on the top of a hill overlooking a very picturesque little town. Then we visited the Tiger's Nest Gompa, the most famous and sacred place in all of Bhutan. The walk is approximately 2h30 to the top. An hour away we will stop to eat and admire the view of the monastery. Check-in at the hotel. Last hours to shop and last dinner with the group. Night in Paro.

Day 7 Paro - Paro - 0

Paro – international flight departures. Transfer to Paro airport towards your international destination. End of our services.

Duración del viaje 12 días 11 noches de hotel (día 1 al 11 incluido). Precio del viaje: - Precio por conductor en moto: 4150€ piloto - Precio por acompañante: 3650€. Pueden venir acompañantes que deseen hacer el viaje como pasajeros detrás de una moto o en el vehículo de asistencia. Clima y ropa durante el viaje. La temperatura media en Bután durante los viajes es de 26°- 28 °. El tiempo es, en general, seco y soleado, pero puede cambiar y las temperaturas pueden descender en las montañas. Deberíamos tener días soleados, algunas noches frías, y tal vez algunas horas de lluvia. Por lo tanto, se aconseja llevar crema de alta protección solar, gafas de sol y guantes. Equipo de moto: Casco (lo mejor es uno modulable) chaqueta, guantes, botas y traje para la lluvia (la mejor opción son los de dos piezas. Si hay un poco de viento la chaqueta impermeable es suficiente para no tener frío en las salidas por la mañana. Durante el día la temperatura será agradable mientras conduzcamos por lo que el equipo ideal de moto será uno entretiempo que pueda ventilarse y que sea transpirable. Traer un par de guates más calientes si tendéis a tener frío para las salidas matinales. Una bolsa imantada para poner sobre el tanque de gasolina es algo práctico para llevar la cámara, guantes y demás. Condiciones de las carretas y conducción en Bután El tráfico de coches en Bután es muy escaso y solo aparece en las proximidades de las zonas urbanas Se conduce a la izquierda y uno se adapta a las reglas de conducción rápidamente. La mayoría de las carreteras están asfaltadas y están en un buen estado general aunque podamos hacer algunos kilómetros de pista. Este circuito es de nivel intermedio para un motero con experiencia en carreteras de montaña. Bután es un país increíble y lleno de magia, pero no es un país fácil para el que no tenga paciencia o no este acostumbrado a imprevistos y retrasos. Si decides unirte al grupo, ten en cuenta que tendrás que ser flexible con las situaciones inesperadas y posibles retrasos debido a las especiales condiciones del país. Como imagino que sabrás, este tipo de aventura en moto conlleva un cierto riesgo que al venir al viaje supongo eres consciente de ello y aceptas. Tener buena disposición y una buena dosis de humor son esenciales para disfrutar al máximo de este viaje La Royal Enfield La Royal Enfield se sigue fabricando en la India después de que la casa inglesa dejara de producirlas en Inglaterra a mediados de los años cincuenta. Las motos siguen con el mismo diseño de hace 60 años, con pocos cambios estético o técnicos. Es una moto robusta con un look y un sonido insuperables. Con el cambio invertido y un motor de 500cc la Enfield te dará un placer de otra época cuando la conduzcas por las carreteras indias. Si la Enfield no es una moto rápida es la que mejor se adapta a las duras condiciones de las carreteras de esta parte del mundo. Nuestra flota de motos Royal Enfield está compuesta por motos de 500cc, caja de cambios de 5 marchas, cambio a la europea y freno de disco y arranque eléctrico. 1- Las inscripciones se harán por estricto orden de fecha de reserva. Lo que quiere decir que si reservas en el último minuto, quizás tengas que optar por una habitación individual si no hay otra persona para compartir una doble. Ya sabes, cuanto antes hagas la reserva más posibilidades tendrás de dormir en habitación doble. 2- Es obligatorio suscribir un seguro de asistencia en viajes si no se tiene uno con la tarjeta de crédito o con el seguro del coche o la moto. Este tipo de seguros cubre los gastos médicos en el extranjero y la repatriación en avión en caso de enfermedad o accidente.
