Discover traveling on a snowmobile

Most important snowmobile tour destinations.

Canada: It is the snowmobile mecca, for some reason it has the two largest global manufacturers in the category: Polaris and BRP , owner of the Ski-Doo brand that also acquired a few years ago the Finnish Lynx based in Rovaniemi – Christmas city- , in the middle of lapon territory and Arctic circle.

You can choose your snowmobile tour in Canada on the East Coast in Quebec or on the East Coast in British Columbia.

Finland is the snowmobile mecca in Europe and is the host country of Lynx snowmobiles, in Rovaniemi where most of the snowmobiles are manufactured especially for the Scandinavian and Russian markets. Our operations headquarters are located in Ruka very close to Kuusamo in the middle of the Arctic circle.

Sweden: Snowmobiling in Sweden is a more domestic version of Finland, our base is located 110km from Sundsvall airport and below the polar circle, at this latitude the snow season is somewhat shorter than in polar destinations, allthough we move to higher altitudes where the snow quality is optimal.

Kyrgyzstan: a somewhat exotic destination at an incredible price, more than 3,500 meters high in the glaciers and mountain ports of Tian Shan, the scenery is impressive, the accommodation only suitable for adventurers.

What is a snowmobile tour like?

We combine superior class accommodations with gourmet food , some equipped with Spa with the possibility of massages.

During the tours meals are often made en route at gas stations, we take advantage of restaurants with gas station to rest and refuel. The diet normally consists in soups, beef , deer and elk meat, the local fish is excellent (trout and salmon).

Important: the necessary license for driving a snowmobile is the same as a type B car license for your safety and in compliance with local laws, the consumption of alcohol during the day is restricted or unauthorized.

How to drive a snowmobile?

It will depend on the orography of the area in which we are driving, it is usually small hills and large lakes surrounded by huge coniferous forests. The driving is basically done on forest tracks that during the summer serve for wood extraction in winter cease its activity.

Is it safe to drive?

Driving a snowmobile is very safe, however it is important that you have in mind these considerations:

• Before departure, our instructor guide will give us a brief explanation of the model commands, driving rules and signals.

• Do not exceed your physical limits, driving a snowmobile can be very physical, manage your energy.

• Keep the safety distance, remember that we travel in a line, it is vital to maintain a minimum safety distance of 5 meters at 30km / h and increase up to 15 at higher speeds.

• Always keep to your right: the winding tracks have very low visibility, reduce speed and stay to the right.

• Off track: do not panic, these are frequent, luckily the soft snow protects us, if you are tired do not try to dig up the motorcycle alone, in the 80% of cases two people are needed to return the vehicle to the track .

• In turns, balance your weight: the skis have a surprising directionality in the snow, but if you shift your weight towards the inside of the curve it will spin faster and with greater safety, preventing the internal ski from lifting.

• If I am lost or not capable to get back on track: we stop to wait, every 10 kilometers we make a re-grouping stop, if someone is missing and we do not have a support vehicle the organization will return to help us.

What to take on your snowmobile tour?

Extreme cold equipment: boots, helmet, gloves and snow suit (in one or two pieces) in most cases this equippment is included in the tour.

Recommended luggage during the tours:

• In addition to the usual, do not forget sunglasses and sunscreen

• For the cold: on skin wear a breathable technical long sleeve t-shirt, below -6º add pants (do not use cotton or wool, with the effort you can go from cold to warm in a very short time) and under the suit, breathable technical jumpers.

• The bikes have heated grips and the organization provides us with a normal glove or mitten, so we are hardly going to be cold, although we recommend you take a first thin glove under the main one.

• Upon arrival at the activity center we will give you a waterproof bag and elastic ropes to fix it on the back of your motorcycle.

• We have a free luggage storage service where we will leave the extra clothes that we will use on our return to the rental center.

Some snowmobile tour tips that can help you

• Cycling shorts under our suit summer or winter, help us cushion and make the journey more comfortable.

• The snow that the partner lifts from the front – if dry - easily embeds in the helmet visor, carrying a plastic card in our pocket will make us an improvised “scratching tool”

• If you wear glasses, with the effort and temperature difference these can be fogged, we recommend wearing anti fog glasses, contact lenses are also a good option.

Is previous experience necessary?

Not of any kind, but it depends on the tour you choose, you should be in good physical shape. In Quebec the snow is 90% prepared, so speed with relatively little effort prevails, but if you want to play with the deep snow and the bumps are little frequent but require a minimum of physical preparation.

The 8 TOP destinations for snowmobile tours:

1 - Canada

A snow tour through the Laurentian mountains. With almost 30 years of experience we have helped more than 500 clients on their snowmobile tours around the world. That is why we are the first Spanish travel agency to organize this type of tours.

2 - Finland

Ruka is our favorite snowmobile destination in Europe. Located in the Arctic circle and 50 kilometers from Rovaniemi, headquarters of BRP Europe and capital of this sport in the continent. Here we find some of the best, Jordan and Mikko tandems, authentic Samis of the specialty.

3 - Sweden

Wilco will make us feel at home, along with Nolly a couple of Dutch who chose this region for its vast Nordic landscapes. Five stars in hospitality and professionalism as guides and hosts. Don't miss Nolly's cuisine. An option at a great price.

4 - Alaska

Snowmobile Alaska is our last frontier, the boundaries of Denali Mc Kinley National Park or deep snow in Valdez, an adventure only suitable for experienced 100% Back Country snowmobile riders.

5 - Canada British Columbia

The practice of snowmobile on the West Coast of Canada, has nothing to do with that of Quebec or the East Coast, here we will find great mountains and steep tracks, the tours are based on the same hotel, if in the east we will find “ironed” tracks, here it is all Back Country, only suitable for the experienced.

6 - Kyrgyzstan

Our highest snowmobile trip, no less than 3,500m high in the lost mountains of Tian Shan, glaciers and mountain passes in the heart of Central Asia, a snowmobile adventure at a very good price, indicated for explorers who do not seek comfort.

7 - Norway

Norway is a country with a high living standard where snowmobiling is not exactly cheap. Based in Tromso, if we want to see auroras and visit the Svalbard Islands on the snowmobiles, we must prepare a big budget.

8 - Russia & Siberia, Lake Baikal

Lake Baikal is the largest fresh water reserve in the world and one of the hot spots for adventure tourism, we propose a three-day motorcycle adventure.
