One of the most important destinations for touring motorcyclists in South America is our Atacama Desert. If we add to this destination several kilometers along the northern part of Route 40 in Argentina, two crossings of the Andes mountain range, the Tunnel Route, and the Llanos de Challe and Pan de Azúcar National Parks, we have an excellent route plan.

We meet at 8:30 to pick up the bikes in Santiago and begin our tour north. On this first day, we take the Tunnel Route, following the route of the old railway.

Río Hurtado – Huasco, 337 km
We start the day early to appreciate the scenery along the 45 kilometers of unpaved road that forms the Antakari route. This stretch passes by the El Pangue and Mamalluca observatories, among others, and flocks of Trichahue parrots will accompany us soaring above the motorcycles. At the end of this tour, we will arrive in Huasco, where a special dinner awaits us, followed by a wonderful rest on the shores of the Pacific.
