What is a Touring motorcycle?
We could say that it is the queen of motorcycle categories, or at least in terms of comfort. As the word Touring or Sport Touring indicates, it is a true traveling bike, designed to allow two people to travel during long routes with great autonomy. You can make routes of up to 500 km per day without much effort.
Here we find the RT and K classes of BMW motorcycles such as the 1200 GS and the 1600 RT, Harley Davidson with its Electra Glide or Ultra Limited models, or Indian Roadmaster and less frequently, Honda with its Goldwing.
Unlike Trail bikes which incorporate off-road capabilities, these bikes are distinguished by aerodynamic protection, gear ratio, driving position and load capacity makes them bikes for travel. Most of the bikes in these categories feature side cases and cruise speed controls as standard.
In this category of motorcycle tours we include Custom type bikes, due to their more limited autonomy and less comfort than the Touring bikes, these bikes are suitable for medium routes of up to a maximum of 300 km per day.
They are designed exclusively for riding on asphalt.
Finally we add the classic motorcycle category to this group , that do not have a high technological level but are still in production and can roll on unpaved short and medium distance trails, they are very common and economical in Asia
Where to travel with Touring or Custom motorcycles?
In Rental Motorbike, we have around the world touring motorcycle itineraries, as long as it can be accessed by a paved road, as driving on any other type of road is limited.
In this category we can find some of the oldest biker routes. Perhaps one of the most famous routes is Route 66, with more than 100 years of history, and 4,000km length it travels the United States from Chicago to Los Angeles .
Why choose Rental Motorbike for your tour?
More than a motorcycle tour, Rental Motorbike Tours gives great importance to the role of motorcycle guides on Touring routes, because in all of them we will find history, anecdotes and above all a lot of passion for bikes.
We have the best motorcycle guides, among them Víctor Muntane one of the Route 66 and USA’s best guides, Enrique Guevara in Cuba or Ryoko Okamoto's team in Japan.
Motorbikes and tourist attractions have the same importance on our Touring bike itineraries,
How are Rentalmotorbike‘s Touring or Custom motorcycle tours?
As we have said, we are in the queen category of travel, long routes with averages of more than 400km per day on these motorcycles, are made relatively comfortably.
It is common for the driver to travel along with a partner, so the groups are usually from a minimum of 4 to a maximum of 15 bikes.
They are ideal tours both in guided or self-drive since we select the best available hotels, always close to all the most important tourist centers.
What brands and models do we use for our Touring or Custom motorcycle itineraries?
Bike brands are becoming more globalized and take more interest in being present in the motorcycle tourism sector, so we will find almost our ideal motorcycle in each destination.
However, bike lovers understand that a part of the history of each country is reflected in their bikes, so to get a better price we need to do it with bikes manufactured in the country where we are.
Renting the locally-made motorcycles also saves costs and travel safety, finding a workshop almost anywhere in the country.
Thus, in the United States, absolute dominance of Harley Davidson models and occasionally Indian Roadmaster. In Europe, Latin America and in South Africa, BMW RT and K classes are the most popular.
In Asia, we have the Ural or Minsk and Royal Enfield models especially in India but increasingly present all over the world.
What budget do we need ?
It will depend on the type of motorcycle we choose, but for the duration of days on the road and the logistics that accompanies them are not especially cheap. But if we compare it to the price per day (between € 300 and € 350), if we add that we can divide the price of the motorcycle with our passenger it will be a very interesting option.
Keep in mind that in the majority of the Touring or Classic tours, there is the possibility of making a self-guided tour (Accomodation + rental or only rental) reducing the price between a 30% and a 60%.
What to take on our tours ?
If you are one of those who do not miss anything, we advise you to choose the guided route, your luggage will travel comfortably in an assistance vehicle. If you are one of those who prefer to travel on your own, you will be able accommodate your luggage to those of the motorcycle.
