Day 1 - Chicago

Day 1 Motorcycle touring and cruiser tour Route 66 english guided (helicopter fligth incl.)

The Windy City welcomes you! Also known as the “Paris of the Prairie”, Chicago is the biggest of the Great Lake Cities, with an exciting life to match. One of its main charms is the incredible skyline view along Lake Michigan, but let’s not forget about their cultural life, which includes several top-rated museums, and a variety of restaurants, nightclubs and bars heavily influenced by their jazz and blues heritage. Tonight you can meet all of your travel companions and Tour Guides at our Orientation Meeting in the assigned hotel. After that, all of us riders will have a Welcome Dinner to celebrate the beginning of our Route 66 journey!

The first thing to do will be to pick up the motorbike in the morning, and we are ready to hit the road in the ultimate American road trip. Route 66 begins at our very location, going through the middle of the Illinois state and then cutting all the way to the Pacific Coast. Once in Chicago we head south along the Pontiac Trail, which is the name given to RT 66 by locals during this one bit of the road. We’ll pass Joliet, where we’ll be able to see the Launching Pad Giant. Furthermore, we’ll make a stop at the incredible RT 66 Museum in Pontiac to deepen your passion for the rubber on the Mother Road.

Our plan is to mainly stay on the 2-lane sections if the Mother Road, cutting through cornfields, and traversing the small towns of U.S.A. that constitute the heart of the country. We’ll arrive at our destination riding over the Chain of Rocks Bridge, the historical, original bridge, where RT 66 crossed the Mississippi River. You can also enjoy a short ride into "Gateway to the West," St. Louis. The wonderful city is built along the shores of the great Mississippi River, and it is famous for its live music and having one of the best BBQ ribs in the country.

We'll make a stop to see the World’s Largest Rocking Chair in Fanning, wind our way on the twisting roads of Devil’s Elbow, and delight at other Route 66 iconic points. The land that you will cross was originally rendered useless in the 1830’s and given as Indian Territory by the British government to the indigenous American tribes. All territory was united after the American Revolutionary War. The Choctaw and the Chickasaw of Mississippi, the Seminole of Florida, and the Creek of Alabama were each assigned a share, while the rest was given to the Cherokee from Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia. Today, the state has a large Native American Indian population – “Oklahoma” means “red man” in Choctaw. We’ll overnight in Oklahoma City, the heart and soul of the RT 66. Bicktown is a good place to visit that night, bursitng with restaurants, bars and shops.

We will ride along a section of the Chisholm Trial, which passes through Yukon and El Reno, and stop at the amazing Route 66 Museum in Clinton. After lunch, we cross the border into the Texas Panhandle, the southernmost portion of the Great Plains. At the Big Texan Steakhouse in Amarillo you have the opportunity to enjoy the best steaks in Texas, guaranteed!

And how about the ghost town of Glen Rio, where you can stand with one foot in New Mexico and the other one in Texas? From there we enter the land of the Comanche Indians, where mesas, mountains, cactus and pines define the landscape as we head up into the High Plains and altitude of Santa Fe in central New Mexico. Santa Fe is one of America’s oldest and most beautiful cities, and will be our base for the next two nights.

Today we cross the border into our final State on Route 66 – California! One thing is for sure - today is a day like no other as we traverse the Mojave Desert which offers some of the most dramatic scenery in Southern California. You can imagine what it must have been like for early Route 66 travelers making their way across this huge expanse of desert, dotted with Joshua Trees, cactus, volcanic rock and sand as you stop in the tiny "waystations" of Amboy and Ludlow. Tonight, we celebrate our last night on the Mother Road.

Day 14 Victorville - Los Angeles - 199

Day 14 Motorcycle touring and cruiser tour Route 66 english guided (helicopter fligth incl.)

Today we head off for our final destination – the end of the road on the Santa Monica Pier! To get there, however, we first get to ride the 66 miles of the Angeles Crest Highway through the mountainous terrain of Angeles National Forest. This highway is considered one of the top motorcycle rides in southern California and rises to over 2300 meters. Next, we descend the Crest into the Los Angeles Basin and head towards the Pacific Ocean. Riders always have mixed emotions as they stand at the "End of the Trail" sign on the Santa Monica Pier. There is a sense of joy and elation at having completed a journey most people only dream about, and a sense of sadness at the thought of the ride having come to an end. Tonight, we celebrate the miles we’ve ridden and the friends we made as we party together at our Farewell Dinner!
